======================================

Passing on a wish

"Have you ever watched a Japanese program about a little girl who uses a teddy bear to fulfill her father's wish before he passed away?"

The cab driver broke the silence and opened the conversation ten minutes after I got into the car. I looked at the betel nut-chewing "luckier" in the diagonal of the rear view mirror.

"No!" I responded in a perfunctory manner as the night of Taipei flashed outside the window.

"It's beautiful! I told you that the little girl's father was very sick and dying! The little girl is also sick, but not as bad as her father. Her father, who was dying himself, comforted his little girl by saying that when she got better, he would take her on a trip around the world with him. The cab driver, seeing that I was becoming interested, continued to tell me seriously.

"But her father died soon! The little girl was very sad. But, remembering that her father's plan to travel around the world had not yet come true, she thought of a way to fulfill his wish! She took her bear as her father and wrote his name and her own on the bear, hoping that the person who got the bear would give it to the next person who traveled with him.

The driver turned back to me and said, "It means that the bear will be handed to the person who travels, and then passed from one person to another, so that the bear can go around the world.

Passing from one person to the next
No matter if they know each other or not, no matter their nationality or language
Just a handful of hands to carry the bear on a journey
Fulfilling the wish of passing on

"The production unit of the program invited the little girl to the program and let her answer a phone call from Germany and let the person tell her in person. Now the bear has traveled to 17 countries and is currently traveling in Germany, and the bear is clean and has a lot of little decorations. The bear is safe, so the father and daughter are safe too! The trip around the world will continue, please don't worry," said the little girl.

"The little girl fell to her knees and cried, thanking the stranger on the phone and the production unit that made her wish come true. The little girl looked very bad and looked like she was dying, but I could see her tears were happy! I handed a tissue to the driver, my own nose sore!

I felt ashamed to see such a thick-skinned driver telling such a touching story. It turns out that society is full of these lovely, reckless people!
It's because of these grassroots base groups that the land is alive and well.

When I got off the bus, I watched the cab fade away in the late-night Taipei street. Thanks to this little story from the driver, I was able to return from my self-important pride to the reality.
